About Timothy Adair Phillips:
Born in Toronto, Ontario in 1929, Phillips studied anatomy at the University of Toronto; at the Slade School, London, England (1951-1952); at the Byam-Shaw School of Art, London (1952-1953); at the Royal College of Art (1958-1959), and at the Academy Simi, Florence, Italy (1959-1960). He was also influenced by Salvador Dali. Dalí invited Phillips to his house in Port Lligat, Cadaqués, and Phillips started to spend his summers working with Dalí (who wrote later that an angel had sent Phillips across his path). In the art world of Cadaqués at that time, the young Canadian met, among others, Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp. Working in oil, watercolour, gouache, ink, pastel, and mixed media, his subjects include still life, nudes, and figures such as seated children. His work is in the collection of the BAGF.
