About the artist: born 1935, New York. Pierre Gaboriau or Gabo is the pseudonym of Pierre LaPalme, son of Robert LaPalme. He studied art at the Collège Étienne in Paris in 1953, and at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal from 1954 to 1959.
His work is part of the permanent collection of the National Gallery, and he is perhaps best-known for the large and colourful mural ('Hommage aux fondateurs de la ville de Montréal'). created with artist Pierre Osterrath, commissioned and installed in the Montreal subway concourse in 1969. It is 7 metres high and 6.4 metres wide, of antique stained glass and acrylic paint.
